“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 ESV
Sometimes a verse you’ve read and referenced MANY times can jump out and step on your toes….I’ve usually focused mostly on verse 9, but the beginning of 10 convicted me this morning: “FOR THE SAKE OF CHRIST then I AM CONTENT…”
BOASTING of weaknesses and BEING CONTENT with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities can be two very different things! Don’t misunderstand, this word content does NOT mean that we don’t work to better ourselves, to be more like Christ, to overcome the flesh and issues of sin or inadequacy in ourselves, it means we take pleasure or are willing to be in those situations because, “when I am weak, then I am strong.” This is so contrary to a worldly point of view…My strength is NEVER from myself, but always because of the power of the Holy Spirit within me thanks to the work of the blood of Jesus!
“Heavenly Father, help me to be so in tune with You and Your Spirit and Your Son, that I will willingly face ANYTHING You allow in my life that it will work together for my good and Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
